The Sámi tradition carried here is not performed for guests. It is practiced by a shaman who has spent a lot of years inside this knowledge. When he lights the fire, beats the drum, or opens the ceremonial space, something real happens. You are invited to be part of it, not as a spectator, but as a participant.
This land has been Sámi ground for centuries. The rituals that take place here today are the same ones that were practiced long before tourism existed. Four Voices. A Shamanic Journey to the Elements
The course is led by a practising shaman in the Saami tradition. Over many years he has studied and transmitted the living knowledge of natural forces, land spirits, and the oral wisdom of the peoples of the North. His work is rooted in authentic practice, not reconstruction. He does not teach about nature. He brings you to it.
Over three days, from Friday evening to Sunday midday, you will work with the four elements of the Saami tradition: Earth, Water, Air and Fire. Each element has its own session, its own trommereise (drum journey), and its own encounter with the spirit-guardians of that force.
All of this takes place in a shamanic lavvo, at the sacred hearth, surrounded by the fjord and northern forest. The nature here is not a backdrop. It is part of the practice.

DURING THE PROGRAM
A drumming journey is a meditative experience guided by the rhythmic sound of a traditional Sámi drum. You simply close your eyes, follow the rhythm, and allow your mind to quieten. It is entirely safe, non-hypnotic, and requires no prior experience
Photography is generally welcome before and after ceremonies, and during informal parts of the program. However, we ask you to put phones away during the actual ritual and drumming journey out of respect for the practice and for fellow participants. Your shaman will let you know when photography is appropriate. If you are unsure, simply ask.
A warm meal is included in all full-day and weekend programs at Troll Havn. Meals are prepared with local seasonal ingredients.
Vegetarian alternatives are available; simply let us know when booking. Troll Museum programs do not include a meal, though traditional Sámi coffee is part of the Coffee Ceremony experience.

The ceremonies are rooted in living Sámi tradition and deserve respectful engagement. You are welcome to observe or participate at whatever level feels right for you . Please arrive on time and avoid the use of phones during rituals. The shaman will guide you through everything and answer any questions you have.
Please note that attending any ceremony while under the influence of alcohol is not permitted . This applies to all programs at both locations. For the weekend retreat, we ask participants to refrain from alcohol and drugs throughout the entire program.

BOOKING & PRACTICALITIES
All programs are available for groups. Most programs accommodate 2 to 25 people; the Sacred Sites Weekend retreat is designed for smaller, more intimate groups of 2 to 12. We welcome private groups, corporate and MICE bookings, and educational visits. For larger groups or custom arrangements, please contact us directly and we will design a program to suit your needs.
